Specialty Court
The Specialty Courts if the Piedmont Judicial Circuit that consists of Banks, Barrow, and Jackson counties and under the supervision of Superior Court, are composed of two courts in Jackson County-- felony drug court and mental health court. Both courts' goal is to reduce recidivism through structured cost-effective programs. The Felony Drug Court provides a non-traditional approach to working with criminal offenders by offering a judicially supervised intensive outpatient substance use disorder treatment program instead of incarceration. The Mental Health Court provides an alternative to incarceration by working with offenders and having them follow a closely monitored personalized treatment plan for their mental health that may also be accompanied by substance use disorder.
