EMS History Organized in 1974, Jackson County EMS
originated staffing two ambulances with 12 employees; one in Jefferson and one in Commerce. EMS crews received
calls for assistance from the public on a telephone that was answered by the crews themselves. In the
event that both ambulances were out, the phone rang to BJC hospital and they contacted the ambulances by radio.
Over the years, Jackson County increased it's number of ambulances and personnel to respond to the needs of Jackson
County.
Today, Jackson County EMS staffs six advanced life support ambulances with thirty-six full-time
employees and fifty part-time employees. Ambulances are located throughout the county and equipped to handle
any medical, cardiac or trauma related emergency.
